The chosen gas is injected into the hole with a unique gas probe which has an in-built gas sensor to indicate when the unit is filled with gas. Recent evidence has shown us that it is ideal to use a displacement filler unit positioned vertically with both holes at the top as per the image below. As well as being an easier method, it is quicker to fill and ensures less gas leakage during manufacture but requires the use of a gas filler with a suction facility on. - you can do this using displacement as long as the gas can escape through the hole with the sensor in it as fast as you are pumping it in.

Two 5mm holes are drilled as close as possible to either end of one side of the spacer bar which does not contain any desiccant. The thickness of a normal double glazed sealed unit can vary in size depending on the frame. IGU thickness is a compromise between maximizing insulating value and the ability of the framing system used to carry the unit. Some residential and most commercial glazing systems can accommodate the ideal thickness of a double-paned unit.
